The first phase of Future Living brought together partner companies from 7 countries across 3 continents, meeting four times in each project year either in-person or online together with ad hoc interactions during the two-year research phase.
Primary bespoke research was undertaken by a leading market research company on our behalf, across three European cities – London, Barcelona and Vienna - to analyse the living and working needs and preferences of 3,000 respondents spread into three demographic groups GenYZ, 35-59yrs and 60yrs+. Questions covered attitudes to technology, sustainability, place of work, cooking and social interactions as we sought to build a picture of what the end user might need from a serviced living product.
The group also set crowd innovation challenges alongside our research partner Fraunhofer IMW.
Topics in the phase included looking at serviced living in the city context, digital enhancements, ancillary spaces, spatial planning to meet user needs, connecting with the local community, smart homes, sustainable buildings, augmented reality and guest/resident engagement.
Meetings were held in Vienna, Barcelona, Copenhagen and London, and at each meeting, guided tours were undertaken of a range of serviced living or topic relevant buildings, allowing the group to ‘get under the bonnet’ of operations, design, sustainability and technology and so benefiting from the varied lense approach and sharing of opinion within the collective.
